The Woman In Black (2012)
The opening title sequence of The Woman in Black (2012) shows 3 young children having a tea party, throughout this scene a non-diegetic sound is being played in the background, the sound is scary and mysterious and starts to build tension making the audience fear that something bad might happen. Also we here a diegetic sound of the dolls heads being crushed when the children are "tranced" and made to walk towards the window.

Sinister (2012)
|
The opening title sequence of Sinister is of a family being hung from a tree. The crackling, creepy non diegetic sound helps build suspense as the family is slowly risen of the ground to their impending death. The diegetic sound of the tree branch slowly falling, shows the slowness of the murder, this impacts on the audience as it shows them how the painful death of the family is dragged out over a long period of time which the audience would view as especially cruel.

Insidious (2010)
The opening title sequence of Insidious focuses a lot more on the red titles and music rather than the image. Before the titles, we are shown a little boys room at night along with ominous music getting louder. Once you see the demonic womans face, the music fades out to complete silence, and then the title 'Insidious' pops up along with extremely loud creepy violins playing. Afterwards, multiple pictures are shown along with very quiet, foreboding violin music. This would build up a lot of atmosphere for the audience as the violins get more intense.
